In his last letter from a month ago, he’d written the war had ended and that he was on his way home. But as the days turned into weeks and the weeks into months, worrying had become a way of life for her. One morning, she was picking rice in the veranda, she heard a familiar whistle. She walked toward the sound, drawn to it as though in a trance. She froze as she saw a familiar figure walking toward her. He swooped her up in his arms and suddenly, time stood still. The air around her was fragrant with summer blooms. It was a moment right out of a movie; only, this was real and hence, it was even more beautiful. After a long, lonely winter, summer had arrived, bringing with it love and peace.
